More About Beta Mu Chapter

Our bold, courageous Founders of Gamma Phi Delta, Inc. instructed each teacher to pledge to organize a chapter of the sorority in her home city. Ms. Barbara Maxton, an active member of Alpha Omicron Chapter, District of Columbia returned to her home city of Spartanburg, South Carolina in year 2000.

She noticed that no chapter of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc. existed in her home city of Spartanburg.  Ms. Maxton was undeterred and sought to establish a chapter of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc. She reacquainted and renewed previous relationships.  She desired to seek available business and professional women who would reflect the quality of womanhood whose ideals and principles were compatible to the goals of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc.

Ms. Maxton followed guidelines, submitted documents and criteria necessary to organize, upon approval at the Regional and National levels.  The weekend of April 7-9, 2000, she successfully accomplished her mission. Beta Mu Chapter became the first and only chartered chapter of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc. in the state of South Carolina, established with eleven members inducted.  This historic event was held at the Holiday Inn in Spartanburg, South Carolina Friday, and Saturday; and they attended church service together Sunday morning at Upper Shady Grove Baptist Church.
National and Regional Officers officiated and chartered members inducted were, alphabetically ordered: Joyce Brown, Doris Fowler, Sadie Jackson, Barbara Maxton, Rose Maxton, Lula Nesbitt, Gwendolyn Proctor, Linda Rodgers, Mildred Snoddy, Rose Thomas, and Walter Wofford. Presently, Beta Mu Chapter has a membership of twenty – eight sisters serving together to empower women.

Beta Mu’s Signature Events:
